Brother Elijah Bush, Sr. was born in Clarksdale, Mississippi on January 14, 1936. He was added to the church in 1949 and began preaching the gospel in 1951 in Merigold Mississippi. He attended the Nashville Christian Institute from 1952 - 1954.

Brother Bush served as an associate minister under the late Brother James S. Fredrick in Delray Beach, Florida. In 1969, Brother Bush moved to Stuart, Florida where he served as minister until 1974. In 1975, Brother Bush became minister of South Woodlawn Church of Christ (Now Avondale Church of Christ). Brother Bush is married to Sister Mary M. (Daniels) Bush and they have six children.
